Key Stage 3 - Years 7 to 9: Year 7 pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, Drama, Information Technology, Music, Art, Geography, History, Religious Education, French/Spanish/German, Technology, Physical Education and Games. There is also a Personal and Social Education Programme which is designed to give pupils confidence in living successfully in the modern world and to increase their self respect.
In order to assist the transition from primary to secondary education, to develop familiarity with the aims and procedures of the school and to enable the form tutor and pupils to get to know one another better, there is a form tutor period each week for Year 7 pupils.
During Years 8 and 9 a similar pattern is provided. In some subjects pupils will be grouped in sets following courses to suit their abilities.
Key Stage 4 - Years 10 and 11: Year 10 and 11 pupils study English, Mathematics and Science and then select subjects from Humanities, Creative Arts, Foreign Languages, Technology and Business Studies. The School encourages pupils to keep a balanced curriculum to ensure maximum choice at the end of Key Stage 4. The majority of pupils take ten GCSEs while some take nine. They also follow a Personal and Social Education programme and have lessons in Religious Studies (which can lead to additional GCSE certification), PE and Games.
The Sixth Form: The School has a thriving Sixth Form which is open to all and offers a wide range of A-Level and GNVQ Courses. Examination Courses and more information are available for those interested in joining the Sixth form by clicking here. |
