The Statement of Mission
St. John's School fosters academic and personal development in a caring and challenging environment so that each individual can achieve his or her full potential. As a Church school, Christian values of loving God and one’s neighbour are reflected both in worship and the daily life of the school.
The Aims of the School
At St John’s C.E. (V.A.) Primary School we undertake to:
· Encourage understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promote Christian values through the experience it offers the pupils;
· Support children as they develop religious, spiritual and personal moral values;
· Foster a love of learning;
· Raise levels of attainment for all pupils, enabling them to achieve their potential;
· Develop confident, lively, disciplined and enquiring learners, with the ability to question, debate rationally and make informed choices;

· Cultivate the acquisition of understanding, knowledge and skills relevant to pupils’ future lives;

· Help children to develop their physical skills and to encourage an awareness of health and personal wellbeing.
The ethos and atmosphere underpin the agreed aims of the school and run through every area of school life, as the writing runs through a stick of rock. The Headteacher and teachers will provide a broad, balanced and rich curriculum, which will develop the skills, techniques, concepts and knowledge for future learning. In the course of their daily work all members of the school community will contribute to the development of this ethos through:
· Provision of a calm, safe and effective working environment at all times, with suitable classroom organisation and teaching styles, in which each child can achieve his or her maximum potential;
· Provision of a stimulating environment with a wide range of resources;
· Provision of a welcoming environment, in which courtesy, kindness and respect are fostered;
· Provision of positive role models;
· Provision of a fair and disciplined environment, in line with the school’s behaviour policy;
· Maintenance of purposeful and informative planning, record keeping and assessment documents, in line with the school’s planning, assessment, recording and reporting policies;
· Provision of children with meaningful, purposeful tasks, related to the National Curriculum, Qualification and Curriculum Authority units of work and materials, school schemes of work, Literacy Strategy, Numeracy Strategy, Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage and the Wakefield Diocesan Syllabus for Religious Education;
· Delivery of a well planned curriculum with appropriate and challenging learning situations which takes into account the progression and the individual needs of children;
· Effective management of their professional time;
· Development of links with the wider community;
· Valuing and celebrating success and achievement;
· Reviewing personal and professional development by undertaking appropriate INSET, training and support from colleagues in order to ensure a high level of professional expertise;
· Welcoming, supporting and teaching of students;
· Creation of policies and systems that foster positive attitudes, good behaviour, self-motivation and the ability to carry out roles of responsibility;
· Setting challenging targets and continually building on success.

At St John’s we assert that learning is ordered and progressive and should takes place in an atmosphere of security and shared purpose. At St. John’s we believe that there is personal value for all as we maximise and enhance learning for every pupil in order to promote good progress, achievement and maximum attainment..
In order to ensure 'continuous progress' in schools' provision and pupil learning, monitoring and evaluation informs planning. The school's self evaluation form (SEF) identifies school strengths and areas for development and priorities from this contribute to the school improvement plan.
