Our school is located in the quiet cul-de-sac at the top of Ivy Avenue, Leeds 9, close to East End Park. We are situated for easy access to the city centre, which is only minutes away, close to the main A64(M) dual carriageway.
The school building is surrounded by trees and green, grassy banks and has a large tarmac playground, painted with lots of games. The play areas are secure and have additional wooden fencing within the main school boundary. There is a large playing field directly behind the school.
Victoria Primary School was built in 1983; since then it has grown and extended with successive building programmes in 1992, 2001 and 2003. The school now caters for up to 350 pupils, aged from 3 to 11 years of age.
The main building is modern, light and airy to work in and always has a pleasant and harmonious working atmosphere. It has a large, refurbished school hall, newly decorated classrooms, a nursery and an additional play area for our very youngest children. In addition, we have two computers suites, a brand new entrance hall, offices and community/meeting room. There are two ‘portakabin’ classrooms for our oldest pupils, which we keep in a very good state of repair; these classrooms overlook the garden area for nature study and are set in a quiet location near the main building.
Our school has a strong sense of community and has established very close links with other local schools; St. Philip’s C of E, Mount St. Mary’s RC Schools, with both Universities and local colleges of Further and Higher Education. In addition, we have been part of an Education Action Zone, which has brought much additional investment into our school in recent years.
Victoria Primary School enjoys a very good reputation within the local community, as well as within the education community in Leeds. The school has gained a number of prestigious awards, which confirms its status as a school which aims to meet the potential of every child and inspire teachers to learn with and alongside the children.
