Your Pride is Our Promise

Committed to a Sustainable Environment

East Worlington Community Primary School is a small rural school of approximately fifty children.

It consists of three classes:
Class 1 - Reception, Year 1, 2 and Year 3
Class 3 - Years 4, 5 and 6
We have the main school building consisting of two rooms, a kitchen and an office. We also have two mobile classrooms and the old School House, which contains a music/computer room and a library/television room. We use the Parish hall for PE and school concerts.

Outside we have a small playground, a field and a garden. In our garden we have a designated Nature Area, which contains a pond. We also have a more formal chequer-board garden where children are encouraged to care for and maintain a plot.

Other features include a living willow house, an adventure playground and, more recently, the Elizabeth House (play house) which was donated to our school by the PTFA as part of the Queen's Jubilee Celebrations.

Location

East Worlington is a small hamlet in the heart of Devon. It is approximately 20 miles south of Barnstaple, the largest town in the area. Other nearby towns include Tiverton, Crediton and South Molton.

East Worlington is predominantly an agricultural area, and the hamlet itself consists of the school, a church, the Parish Hall and a few cottages.

Our Aims

Our aim is to create a happy, secure environment within which our children are able to develop to their full potential across a wide range of academic and social skills.

We provide a broad and balanced curriulum that is appropriate for each child. We want our children to have high expectations for themselves and to take a pride in thier achievements. We encourage them to develop an enquiring mind and to become independent learners.

We believe that quality teaching with a varied approach, and the opportunity for co-operative learning at different levels are essential factors in enabling our children to succeed.

We aim to create a caring environment where children see themselves as valued individuals, and respect the views, needs and abilities of others. We seek to ensure that children become increasingly self-diciplined and responsible. We see ourselves as a community with children, staff and parents working together to provide a successful partnership. With the support of Governors and the local community, the school has an important role to play in East Worlington and the surrounding area.

The Curriculum

East Worlington Primary School works towards the areas specified in the National Curriculum. The Governors have agreed to adopt the Devon Curriculum Statement, a copy of which is available in school.
We provide varied opportunities for learning. We believe that all children should acquire the basic skills in order to develop and extend their personal knowledge and understanding linked to their individual abilities. We aim to make all learning situations meaningful and stimulating, capitalising on the interests and strengths of the staff. Besides developingf maths and language skills we encourage an understanding of the world in its broadest sense, past, present, future, peoples and cultures. This work is often organised through inter-disciplinary projects, where geography, history, technology and science are studied alongside the arts, health education and religion. The contents of projects vary from term to term, different emphasis in a range of subject areas.
Suitable television and radio programmes are incorporated to supplement and reinforce learning, and the Schools Resources Service provide us with exhibits to give the children first hand experience. ICT is taught as a separate subject and is also used across the curriculum to support, reinforce and extend learning.

Parents and members of the community also help us to extend our studies in school.
