St Peter's C E (V A) Junior School
Greenlands Estate, PL19 9HW Tavistock
01822 614640

St Peter's was opened in 1976 occupying a very pleasant, well designed building on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities, including extensive playing fields, playgrounds, sports changing rooms, outdoor swimming pool and a computer suite and library. We have exciting plans to greatly enlarge all of the classrooms over the next few years.
As a junior school the children are aged between 7 and 11 (Education Years 3 - 6)
The school currently has about 140 children on roll, which are split between five classes. We endeavour to keep class sizes below 30. Classes are named after three of the local Dartmoor 'tors'. Class sizes currently range between 18 and 36 pupils.
The school is noted for its friendly, welcoming atmosphere in which children are given every opportunity and encouragement to succeed. We foster high standards of achievement and expect good conduct and courtesy from the children.

On this page you can view a few aspects of the school in action.

Here we see the excellent hall being used for a gymnastics lesson. The children have two 'hall periods' per week, which will be used for an aspect of PE, drama or PSME.

The hall is also used at lunchtime. Here we see the children enjoying the excellent lunches cooked in our own kitchen.

We have a daily whole school act of worship in the hall. Each class will lead a service once a term and parents are encouraged to join us for this.

Three years ago we were fortunate to have a large extension built to accommodate a new library and computer suite. This is situated inthe centre of the school, so all classes have easy access to it. We call this the 'Learning Resource Centre.'

These children are in the middle of a geography lesson, using atlases and other books for research.

A Design Technology lesson here is resulting in children producing working models of fairground rides.
