In Year 1 children work in their class groups. Classrooms are large and children have plenty of room for role play and practical activities to ensure their move into year 1 is a smooth transition.
Autumn: Children in year 1 begin with a topic 'All about me'. They will be learning about growing up, their senses and exploring our school and people who help us. In the second half term, the children will be learning about different festivals in their 'Lets Celebrate' topic. They will explore light and dark, and look at toys of the past. In Literacy, they will learn words and sounds, and begin to write short phrases and sentences. In maths they will be looking at pattern and counting, learning to add and take away, and doing lots of measuring!
