Grove Vale Primary School was formed by the amalgamation of junior and infant children in September 1985 and is a co-educational, Primary day school for pupils aged 4 - 11 years. The school is non-denominational. This means that some of our facilities, such as two halls, T.V. room, swimming pool and ICT suite are rather special.

We have 14 classrooms and 2 mobile classrooms. Not all of our rooms are permanently used by classes; therefore we have set some aside for special purposes. These purposes include a Music Room, Library, Resources Room, Games Equipment Store and a room used by the Parents Association. One of the mobile classrooms has been loaned for use as a Playgroup.

The School is situated in Monksfield Avenue, Great Barr. The buildings were erected in 1961 on a newly developed housing estate. The architect chose to build the School into a hillside. Because of the contours there are many steps around the school as classrooms are built on different levels. The classrooms are mostly built in pairs, with toilet facilities for the children shared between 2 classes.

The area surrounding the School is pleasant, with well-kept housing facing the School and a park behind.

Aims of the School

The aims of the School may be briefly stated as follows: -
To ensure that the academic curriculum is taught with due reference to the National Curriculum and at the appropriate level for the individual child. Further, to be mindful of the hidden curriculum which encourages correct social behaviour, teamwork, tolerance and understanding of the diversity of cultures in Britain today.
To foster the physical, intellectual and emotional development of each individual child.
To search out and foster children’s talents, increasing their self-knowledge and developing within each child a positive image.
To establish and maintain a happy, secure and thriving community of adults and children, one that serves and prepares children for the larger community outside the School.
