Highfields Primary School was built in the early 1970's and is of semi-open plan clasp construction. It stands in its own pleasant grounds off the main A5190 Cannock/Lichfield Road .
The accommodation comprises a hall, nine main teaching areas, a computer area and some additional shared areas that are used for resources and the teaching of small groups. The school has recently had considerable alterations made to the interior, with many of the interior areas being divided with partition walls to make separate teaching bases. The outdoor facilities are excellent and include a large field used for various sporting activities; two hard surfaced playgrounds, an adventure playground and a recently added garden area. A conservation area, as well as other grassed areas, is used to support curriculum delivery
The school has established close links with the community: buildings and grounds are used by a variety of clubs in the evenings: parent and toddler groups are organised weekly by the staff. Also on offer are the Early Bird and Late Bird Clubs, providing before/after school and holiday care for children attending the school.
The classes are organised in both horizontal and vertical groups. The staff work collaboratively, planning for all subjects. Each member of staff has the responsibility of at least one curriculum area. |
