Message from the headteacher:-

Jeannette Mackinney

January is a new start to the year – and a new start for me, taking over as the Headteacher of Lutley Primary School! I am looking forward to getting to know you all over the next few months and trying to learn as many names as I can! I have enjoyed 6 very happy years as the Headteacher of Greenfield Primary in Stourbridge and am now ready to take on the challenge of another flourishing Dudley school.

Lutley is a successful school with an excellent reputation within the borough of Dudley. It is a three-form entry school i.e. we have three classes of approximately 28 children in each year group.

The school is built on two floors, which results in all our children being in close proximity. The school achieves an ethos of family care despite its being one of the largest primaries in the borough.

Our children enter the school in Reception from supportive, interested homes. Our induction programme into Reception enables parents to maintain an active partnership in their child’s learning throughout the vital primary years.

We welcome parents into school and endeavour to keep positive communication channels open so that all our families feel able to share hopes, dreams and concerns with us.

We have high expectations at Lutley and we expect everyone to do their best. Not all children are academics so we aim to encourage an atmosphere of respect and celebration where individuals can work towards their unique potential, recognising that best efforts are rewarded and rewarding. As a staff we aim to model this approach through giving or our very best, recognising that we too need to be active in securing individual development to achieve all that we can. Our school vision is to secure learning for all in a climate of independence and mutual care. We want Lutley to be a Learning organisation which is vibrant and creative, where people at all levels are motivated and thrilled by all that education has to offer.

I look forward very much to welcoming you to our school family. I enjoy showing families around school to see teaching and learning in action. Parents can pick up the ‘feel’ of the school at this time and note how children and staff relate to each other. Ours is a happy, secure and rigorous environment and a tour of the school will demonstrate the respect, the fun and the challenge therein.

I look forward to meeting you.

J Mackinney

Admissions

Before application all parents are asked to make an appointment to visit the School. They will be welcomed and shown around by either the Head Teacher, Mrs A Wheeler, Deputy Head Teacher, Ms C Walsh.

Admissions Policy

  1. Parents will be asked to express first and second choices for schools.
  2. Places at a school will be allocated first to those children whose parents have identified the school as
  3. their first choice, on the basis of the following priorities:
    • first, to children for whom the school is the most suitable available school to meet either the child’s special educational needs as identified on a statutory statement of special education needs or other medical needs of the child.
    • then, to children who have a brother and sister already at the school who will still be attending at the time of entry.
    • then, on the basis of proximity.
  4. Any parents not obtaining a school of either their first choice will be allocated a place at the nearest school with a place available.
  5. References to determining priority on the basis of proximity mean that the children in the group being considered are ranked in an order (nearest first) determined by the distance measured in a straight line between their home and the school at which places are being allocated.

NB The distance measured will be between the home and the main entrance to the school.

School Admissions and Entry in 2006/2007

The School admission number is likely to remain at 85 pupils per year. We admit our reception children in September if their fifth birthday falls between 1 September and the last day of February. We admit children in January if they are 5 years of age between 1 March and the last day of August.

At the present time, this school is almost totally full. Parents with younger children at home are respectfully asked to register them at school as soon as possible to enable the school to be aware of future admission numbers.

Whilst we have a few places available, we are close to being full in many year groups.
