A warm welcome to Solihull Junior School. We aspire to inspire!

We pride ourselves in nurturing children's varied abilities from age 7 to age 11 in pursuit of excellence and fun. Our children are very special to us and we aim to help them to flourish in all spheres in a caring and lively environment. We believe every child is an individual, with unique abilities and needs and we get the very best out of them, in small classes with a team of dedicated teachers.

We have an excellent record of gaining academic scholarships into the senior school, and many have won awards for music as well. The outstanding success of our sports teams and the quality of our music and drama are second to none. We offer a rich variety of activities to suit all children, from sport to music and from drama to our unique cub pack. Our own facilities have been purpose-built to include a separate hall, a well-stocked library, a state of the art computer suite, a science room with cooking facilities, an impressive art room and a dedicated design and technology room.

Additionally, being on the same site, we enjoy the benefit of using all the extensive faciliites of the senior school, which gives us a range unrivalled in any local school. The main Bushell Hall has been the site for Mathematics video conferences as well as our drama and music events. The onsite sports facilities include a fully-equipped sports hall, indoor swimming pool and astroturf pitch as well as the extensive playing fields. We have our own play area, safely close to the school buildings as well as access to the wider campus of the school. The excellence of our music is enhanced by the team of specialist teachers who serve the school as a whole offering individual music lessons in any instrument and a wide range of ensemble activities.

All this helps us to achieve our central objective of educating the whole child and developing confident and happy pupils.

Lindsay Brough (Head of Junior School)

The best way to get a real idea of our school is to pay us a visit. We have a number of “Open Days” throughout the current academic year and would be delighted to see you! You may also arrange to look round at other times by making an appointment with the Junior School Secretary, Christine Clarke on               0121 705 5644       , or email

The full details of the general routine of our day are given in the “Guide to Solihull Junior School”, a full copy of which you will find at the bottom of this list of “tabs”.

Entrance procedures and application forms can be downloaded using the “Admissions” button on the red bar above.

The Curriculum

The Junior School is an exciting and vibrant school which provides a broad and wide ranging curriculum with opportunities for all pupils to achieve their potential. Although we broadly follow the National Curriculum we do not adhere rigidly to this as we seek to offer a wide range of experience and an ever-changing curriculum to promote high levels of academic attainment.

The Junior School prides itself on its excellent academic tradition. Our J4’s (Year 6’s) perform exceptionally well in the 11+ examination, winning over half of the accepted scholarships into the Senior School. Our pupils are also outstandingly successful in the UK Mathematics Challenge. Our children are very mature and confident as a result of the excellent care, individual attention and support which they receive. We have high expectations of our children’s conduct and behaviour, encouraging them to develop strong moral values.

Academic excellence is promoted through small class sizes, specialist teaching and outstanding facilities. We have our own hall, state-of- the- art ICT suite, library, separate CDT, Science and Art rooms.

The school’s aim is to develop the whole person. We encourage a breadth of interest and set high, realistic expectations resulting in a high standard in academics, sport, Music and the Creative Arts.
