The Straits Primary School was opened in 1968 and is situated in a very pleasant area near the Cotwall End Valley and within walking distance of Cotwall End Nature Centre. Baggeridge Country Park and the grounds of Himley Hall are also not far away. All these areas are used by the children in their work at school. Our own grounds are very extensive with large areas for playing sport. Recently, children have helped the Forestry Commission to plant trees as part of an ongoing school project to improve the environment.
The Home and School Association have contributed much to these developments. The school shares the site with a day nursery, (the Happy Hours Nursery), the Straits Church and the Dudley Schools’ Library Services. The entrance to these facilities is in Milton Road. For safety reasons our school entrances are at Longfellow Road and Wordsworth Road. The school has close connections with all three establishments and gains much from their presence.
