Our motto, "Learning for Life" sums up the simple philosophy that informs the work of staff, pupils and students at Kirkland: namely, that learning prepares us for life and is a lifelong experience.

Our motto, "Learning for L I F E"

Learning First .....
Learning is the first priority in the school and comes before everything else. Everything that pupils and staff do must be directed towards the central objective of ensuring that effective learning takes place at all times within every classroom in the school. Good behaviour, punctuality and hard work help us all to put learning first.

Improving Attainment .....
Pupils, parents and employers value positive attainment in school subjects, in behaviour, in school service and activities such as sport and music. We are working together as a school community to make sure that every pupil's personal attainment is as positive and as high as it can be.

Focus on the Future .....
Learning for life means that pupils must focus on life at school and after school. Through classroom work and through the school's PSE programme pupils are encouraged to look forward and to make effective plans for the future. Success in school now makes future success easier to achieve.

Education for Work .....
Education for work begins in the classroom with an emphasis on the importance of reliability, consistency and hard work, all qualities prized by employers. Kirkland's partnerships with local employers and businesses help us to prepare pupils for the world of work. By emphasising education for work as a core school activity we enable our pupils to build on their school experience and to take their place in an increasingly competitive job market.

High School

Kirkland High School's origins lie in three secondary schools which served local communities for several generations. When a secondary school was built in Methil in 1963/64 staff and pupils from Aberhill, Leven and Kennoway moved into the newly named Kirkland Junior High School which, in due course, became Kirkland High School, a full six-year comprehensive. In 1990, in a unique initiative in Fife, a Community College was also established leading to the creation of our present Kirkland High School and Community College.

The modern building in addition to normal classroom facilities contains a large assembly hall with stage and specialist areas for Art, Technical Education, Home Economics, Business Studies, Computing and Science.

For Physical Education there are two gymnasia, a swimming pool, a large games hall, two squash courts (one fully equipped as a multi gym) and an all weather pitch. In recent years ramp facilities and a lift have been provided to assist disabled persons take full advantage of the facilities.

We have an excellent Library Resources area and up to date departments of Business Studies and Computing providing excellent facilities for private study, careers information, flexible learning, Computing and Business Studies courses.
