About Us

Ashcraig is organised mainly along the lines of a traditional secondary school and provides opportunities for pupils to progress, with support, through an appropriate pathway towards adult life in the community. Courses are taught in small class groups (there is maximum of eight pupils to a class) and a variety of options are available according to need, including National Certificate Modules, SEB Standard Grade, Higher Grade courses and now Higher Still courses. Preparation for university entrance is also on offer.

The school offers an appropriate and relevant educational experience for those students with physical and/or visual impairment who can benefit from a mainstream secondary programme within a small group setting, with additional support available from medical and therapy teams sited within the school. Short term placements are available to enable continuity of secondary education for students in mainstream schools who require purpose-built accommodation.

Students are encouraged to participate in all school courses and activities. The various professionals work as a multi-disciplinary team to promote the educational and physical progress and well-being of each individual student.

We are proud of our use of technology to support student learning and aim to be at the forefront of developments in this field.

The school has embraced Education Business Partnership links enthusiastically, and students are able to benefit from the wide range of activities available through these links - Work Experience, mock interviews, employers' panels, etc.

ACTIVITIES

The summer term will be a very busy term for Ashcraig School. As well as examinations and assessments there will also be three residential trips, the Kool for Kids day, and of course the school sports which take place every year at the Kelvinhall Arena.

The summer activities programme will again be running for S1/S2 pupils. If parents are interested in their child attending they should look out for information and application forms.

We have been asked to send a team to Germany to represent Glasgow in a disability sports competition involving Glasgow and its twinned cities. Ms Biggins will be taking a team to Nuremberg in June.
