Welcome to Killermont Primary School's website. I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Killermont Primary is an Investor in PeopleKillermont Primary is situated on the east side of Bearsden within a residential, suburban community. The current building was opened in 1997 and is a non-denominational, co-educational school for all stages from Nursery to Primary 7. We are very proud of our traditions and high standards in teaching and learning which we hope will fully equip our pupils for lifelong learning.

Here at Killermont we aim to provide a safe, happy and caring environment where children learn respect for themselves and for others. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and work to ensure our pupils achieve the highest possible standards according to their ability. We aim to help our pupils become independent learners, be aware of their social responsibilities, be creative, healthy and develop a positive attitude to life.

Killermont is a busy school, that encourages partnership with parents and the wider community. We have an active School Board, an enterprising P.T.A. who organise many social and fundraising events over the school year and many parents support their children at school in a variety of ways.

We are very aware that good relationships between parents and teachers are essential. We must work together to ensure that pupils develop their full potential and make effective use of the education system. If you have not already visited the school, we should be delighted to meet you and show you round.

AIMS

We aim to foster in our children values and attitudes which will serve them well throughout their whole lives as we firmly believe that the span of years between four and twelve is most formative and is filled with enthusiasm for living. This is achieved by encouraging and channelling energies into the development of a balanced and mature person, able to function on his or her own and with others, displaying social values of benefit to the child and to the community at large.
Within this section you will find detailed the aims for the school and these reflect the ethos created by all staff and pupils in the school.

In Killermont Primary we aim to:

1. Raise standards of attainment by providing a broad and balanced curriculum, which is appropriate to the needs of all children and is motivating, challenging and enables them to reach their potential.

2. Provide a safe, happy and attractive environment that is well resourced.

3. To support and develop the skill of staff in order to provide an effective learning and teaching environment of the highest quality.

4. Promote equality of opportunity paying due regard without discrimination to disabilities, S.E.N., gender, religious persuasion, racial origin and to the cultural and linguistic background of the children and parents.

5. To foster positive and productive partnerships with pupils, parents, outside agencies and the wider community.

6. Help children to become independent learners, be aware of their social responsibilities, to be creative, healthy and to develop a positive attitude to life.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum of the school is planned giving a breadth and balance which encourages progression in all elements of learning. It affords equality of opportunity to all children at school and fosters an awareness of the multi-cultural nature of society. The national 5-14 development programme provides staff with a framework within which to organise programmes of study.
Our teaching and learning is organised to allow a progression from Level A to Level E with children moving at their own individual pace.

ASSESSMENT

Children sit National Assessments in Writing, Reading and Mathematics when their teachers judge that they are working consistently within a level. In addition, pupils may be assessed using a variety of standardised reading, spelling and mathematical tests, depending on their stage.
Teachers use a range of assessment strategies to gather evidence of pupils' attainment.

Assessment is planned in each area of the curriculum throughout the year.

PUPIL CONCIL

The Pupil Council is an important forum for all children in the school to use as a means to state their constructive views about school life.
Each year group has their own representative and these representatives meet regularly with members of the senior management team in order to discuss issues that have been identified by all children in the school.

The information in this section will give you details of the Pupil Council and provide you with up to date information about the current activities that the Pupil Council is involved in.
