Welcome to Cyffylliog School

Ysgol Cyffylliog is a naturally bilingual small rural primary school located in Cyffylliog village in the Vale of Clwyd, Denbighshire, North Wales. It caters for children from both Cyffylliog and Bontuchel villages and the surrounding area and has a friendly and homely atmosphere.

There are two classes - the Junior Class (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) and the Infants' Class (Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2). We have two full time teachers, including the Headteacher, who has the charge of the older class, plus one part-time teacher and a part-time Nursery Assistant.

School Building
School Sign Approximately one third of pupils come from Welsh speaking homes, but as many as three quarters of the school’s pupils choose to be educated through the medium of Welsh.

Why raise children bilingually?

• Children who learn two languages are ahead with reading and counting.
• Two languages offer a better choice of jobs.
• Speaking two languages opens doors on new experiences and friends.
• It becomes easier to learn more languages.
• Two languages bring the wealth of two cultures.

The picturesque area enjoys all the advantages of quiet rural life and yet is conveniently situated, with the market town of Ruthin only a few miles away where there are plenty of facilities - secondary school and leisure centre, supermarkets, post office, shops, a hospital and doctors' surgeries and fine restaurants.

The Curriculum

Our principal aim is to create situations and experiences to foster the broad and complete development of each pupil within the limits of his/her ability. In accordance with the requirements of the National Curriculum the school aims to provide a broad, balanced education within the following subjects:

Welsh
English
Mathematics
Science
Physical Education
Religious Education
Information & Communication Technology
Design & Technology
Music
Art
History
Geography

All teachers teach literacy and numeracy in all other National Curriculum subjects where possible. At the age of 7 (Year 2) there will be a teacher assessment and at 11 (Year 6) the pupils will take the SATs tests. This will show where they may need extra help and where they are doing well.

Please contact the Headteacher if you wish to see more detailed information regarding each subject area.
