| ABOUT US
Hindley Green is a two form entry Community Primary School providing an education for children aged from 3-11 years. The school is housed in two buildings which are separated by extensive playing fields.
The two buildings are completely different in design! The newer building, which is single storey and open plan was opened in October 1974 and houses five infant classes and the nursery class.
The school has separate playgrounds for infant and junior aged children and two attractive, well stocked libraries.

| At Hindley Green C.P. School education is about learners experiencing the joy of discovery, solving problems, being creative in writing, art, music, developing their self-confidence as learners and maturing socially and emotionally. This school will combine high standards with a broad, balanced and rich curriculum. Education will be the fusion of excellence and enjoyment. We believe that learners do better when they are excited and engaged, when there is joy in what they are doing, they learn to love learning.
Literacy and Numeracy will be the backbone of our pupils’ success in learning. We will build on our strengths to serve the individual needs of all our children using the skills of everyone in the school. This school will drive its own improvement, set its own challenging targets and recognize that for the sake of our learners we can always do better.
We demonstrate our commitment to our mission, vision and aims by:
- striving for continuous improvement in all we do
- working collaboratively towards common targets
- investing in people

| The school aims to provide a rich and varied curriculum which endeavours to meet the demands of the National Curriculum and is encompassed by the wider Wigan Primary Curriculum Statement. We offer a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum which aims to satisfy the children’s needs, challenge their abilities and help prepare them for further stages of development.
The children follow the programmes of study for all the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum and the relevant statements of attainment are clearly identified in the planning, recording and assessment of work. Programmes of study set out what pupils should be taught and level descriptions describe the types and range of performance that pupils working at a particular level should characteristically demonstrate.
The children are encouraged to work in a variety of situations - independently, in pairs, in small groups and also as a class when appropriate. They learn to recognise and appreciate the need for such groupings.
|
| Educational visits are usually linked with project work and all the children participate in these where appropriate. We also take parties of children and staff on an annual visit to one of the authority’s outdoor pursuit centres in Cumbria.
We regularly have interesting speakers, theatre companies, visiting musicians and artists etc., to enrich the curriculum and help to stimulate the children’s curiosity and imagination.
